The casting frenzy for Captain America has finally come to an end. Director Joe Johnston has hired Fantastic Four's Chris Evans in The First Avenger: Captain America as the iconic superhero.
This casting comes after it was reported that Chris Evans was offered the role last week but wasn't sure if he will accept the 9 picture deal for only a low $300,000 salary. The deal calls for Evans to star in at least three solo movies, with the first being The First Avenger: Captain America arriving in theaters on July 22, 2011, joining Hugo Weaving who was the first to be cast, as the villain Red Skull. He would also reprise his role in The Avengers, which includes other heroes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton), hitting theaters the next year on May 4 2012.
This is great news, as I thought the other actors in consideration were ridiculous.
The list of those actors considered included John Krasinski (The Office), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights,), Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) Michael Cassidy (Smallville), Patrick Flueger (Brothers,), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl),Garret Hedlund (Tron Legacy), Ryan Phillippe (Crash), Channing Tatum (G.I Joe) and even Dane Cook (Who Cares?)!!
The only actors I thought would be excellent as Captain America in that list were Ryan Phillippe and Garrett Hedlund. I was leaning more on Phillippe as he was the most experienced and hasn't had that defining role yet.
But Chris Evans I think is perfect and I know he will give it his all, because he knows there will be heaps of backlash from fans, who are most likely haters of Fantastic Four.
Anyway, here's the new Steve Rogers AKA Captain America!!
